AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP GET THE VOTE OUT DURING QUARANTINE

AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP GET THE VOTE OUT DURING QUARANTINE

COVID-19 may have limited our ability to engage in traditional ‘get out the vote’ activities, but we still have effective ways to encourage underrepresented Texans to make their voices heard.
To that end, the National Council of Jewish Women-Texas is partnering with Vote Forward to write personalized letters to folks in underrepresented communities, who don’t always make it to the polls, urging them to vote. The letters will be sent just before the November election. In other recent elections, voters who received these letters were significantly more likely to vote.
The goal is to reach 10 million registered and possible voters. Recently we have been reminded in violent and heart-breaking ways how critical it is that the voices of underrepresented Americans are heard.

While we are socially distant from one another, we would like to create a social opportunity to write letters together. We will be hosting several optional Virtual Zoom Parties for our members to get together to partially write & address letters to names that will be provided of new or low frequency Texas registered voters who may not vote unless they get a little nudge.
The letter writing process is very simple, as all we have to do is print out the letters with the name and address. You fill in the recipient’s name, why you feel it is important to vote, and sign your name. Then you address the envelope and put them away until time to send them out, which will be some time in October.
The Houston section has already scheduled specific dates when you can sign up to participate in one or more Virtual Zoom Parties.
